“Educate or Die” - The Fate of Black America
By: Phillip Jackson (The Black Star Project)

The fate of Black America is simply “Educate or Die!” Government programs are ratcheting down, foundations are refusing to fund our causes, the media ignores our cries for help and the disorganized Black civil rights movement is impotent. At an accelerating pace, Black America is moving towards the precipice of non-relevance and non-existence in the new global world. This has created an undeclared state of emergency in the Black community without an adequate response from the Black community or the American government. (excerpt of editorial found at www.educateordie.org)

Friends of Children, Inc. has established a Florida chapter of the “Educate or Die!” campaign sponsored by The Black Star Project in Chicago, Illinois. This is a community awareness campaign aimed directly at engaging our children in efforts to help save themselves. The campaign combines the power and allure of hip-hop and spoken-word poetry to educate especially Black and Latino students about how the current conditions in their world arose; and how they can use education as a tool for the success of themselves and their communities.

The goal is to have an Educate or Die! chapter in elementary, middle, and high school. We also want to develop chapters on college campuses.

Please check out our Educate or Die! gear. Proceeds from your purchase support our ability to sustain our mostly unfunded efforts to address critical needs in our community.
